Baby’s First Easter Basket Ideas
I’ve been looking forward to putting together Henry’s first Easter basket since before he was born! He arrived just days after Easter last year, so even though he will be over a year old this year, this will actually be his first Easter!
This post will share what is going in Henry’s first Easter basket as well as some ideas for younger babies that I have found!
You will notice that most of the items on this list are not specifically “Easter” toys, books, etc. I instead chose items that would be able to be used all year round.
I also don’t want to spend a lot of money on an Easter basket full of goodies that aren’t useful or practical– so all items on this list serve some sort of purpose. They are either educational, promote language or literacy development or encourage fine or gross motor skills, etc. Other items are ones that you might purchase anyway–like teethers, bibs, plates, utensils, etc–but in a cute springtime version!
There are over 50 ideas so I categorized them into: Baskets and basket alternatives, toys, practical items, books, stuffed animals, seasonal items and cheap filler items. Simply scroll to what you need!

Easter baskets and basket alternatives:
Instead of spending $10-15 on a cute Easter basket that will only get used once a year, I am going to use one of these options as Henry’s “basket” and put his goodies inside!
Bunny or Duck Easter Basket
Toys
I tried to list toys for all ages from newborn to a year and older! Many have an Easter or spring theme, others are just great smaller toys that your little one will love!
Hanging toys are a great option for the youngest babies to help them develop hand eye coordination! You can hang them on their carseat, stroller, play mat, etc.
The more teethers the better, in my opinion! And how cute is this one for Easter?!
If your baby is really young (1-3 months) I would suggest adding some black and white high contrast toys in their basket! This is a great set of picture cards.
These wooden maraca eggs are a great alternative to eggs filled with candy! There is also a natural wood version if you would prefer that!
Henry LOVED these types of rattles as a younger baby because they were so easy to hold onto! And Jellycat stuffed animals are so soft! It also comes in several other colors and animals including a cute lamb.
Fisher Price Sunshine Rattle Ball
This ball has been a big hit with Henry! The sun and rainbow spin and it rattles and makes a fun noise.
This is such a unique stacking toy! I love that it is wood and the bunny is perfect for Easter!
These Quack Along Ducks are great for older babies who are just learning how to walk!
These have great reviews on Amazon and look like so much fun for little ones! They make a peeping noise and the bottom of each egg has a different shape to teach shape recognition.
If you don’t have a set of stacking cups yet–you need them! I didn’t get what the hype was about before we owned these, but Henry has already found so many creative ways to play with these and I know he will continue to find more as he gets older!
I loved ring style teethers because they were so easy for Henry to hold! This one is perfect for an Easter basket and also comes in blue and pink.
Another great toy for older babies learning to walk!
These are a great way for you baby to learn to “paint”! Babies can use the special water pen to reveal hidden images, then once the water dries the image disappears so it can be used over and over again!
These egg shaped crayons are the perfect first crayon for babies! They are big, so they are easier to grasp and won’t break as your little one learns how to use them.
Peter Rabbit Teether Stuffed Animal
I love that this stuffed animal’s feet are teethers! Makes a cute stuffed animal have a more practical purpose 🙂
I have heard such great things about these cards! They are supposed to be really sturdy and great for encouraging baby’s language development. There are several other versions available as well.
Most babies love playing ball and this one would look so cute in an Easter basket!
These sensory balls are for sure one of Henry’s most played with toys! They would look cute in an Easter basket as an alternative to eggs too!
Bath toys are always a good gift and this little gardening set is so sweet! You could also use them in a water sensory bin for extra usage.
Magnets are great for developing fine motor skills! Henry loves playing with magnets on our fridge while I cook! These are cute, simple, wooden magnets! Here is a slightly cheaper set from Melissa & Doug that is cute too!
Baby Einstein Music Take Along Toy
Out of all of the “noise making” toys that Henry has, this one is my favorite! It plays classical music so it isn’t quite as annoying to listen to and is perfect on the go entertainment.
This is defintley a bigger gift for an Easter basket, but I love open ended toys like these and I know Henry will get years of play out of it!
Practical Items
Duck Shaped Silicone Suction Plate
This is the cutest plate ever and such a practical Easter basket filler that can be used all year round!
Adorable bunny and carrot utensils! They have great reviews too!
As baby’s teeth come in, this is a great first toothbrush to use–or it can just be used as a teether! It also has great reviews!
Even if your little one isn’t eating solid food yet–they will be soon and these bibs will be a lifesaver for their outfits! This is the one that we have but this brand has lots of cute options for both boys and girls.
These are great to have in your diaper bag for when you go out to eat! They help keep germs away from your baby and also make clean up much easier.
I use this reusable baby food pouch to give Henry smoothies and it is amazing because it is spill proof AND he can feed it to himself! I highly recommend!
These are the best booties for little ones and stay on so well! They have TONS of different colors to choose from, for both boy and girls.
Other ideas: Applesauce pouches, puffs, sippy cups, utensils, disposable bibs, bubble bath etc.
Books:
Henry started loving this series of books around nine months old. He loves turning the pages by himself and feeling the different textures.
The sweetest story about a mama’s love for her baby!
We have several of these Little Quack books and Henry loves them. A great combination of cute ducks, bright illustrations and just enough words on a page. I love that they are a padded board book and introduce differenct concepts like the alphabet, counting or opposites!
A fun book for babies to listen too–especially if you sing it 😉 Also great as they get older to introduce basic math concepts!
Soft crinkle books are great for young babies! They were the only thing that would keep Henry content in his car seat for quite awhile. I think they appeal to babies because each page is something new and exciting! There is also a board book version if you would prefer that one.
This Nutbrown Hare lovie is so sweet too!
Peter Rabbit Soft Teether Book
Another cute option for a soft book with attached teether with great reviews.
How cute are the illustrations in this book? This book teaches littles some basic facts about chicks in a sweet way.
I have a ton of Biscuit readers from my classroom and Henry seems to gravitate towards them. I love the holiday board books they make because he can turn the pages on his own and they are touch and feel!
This isn’t technically an Easter book, but it tells a story about animals who try and teach a chick to dance. On each page you can make a different animal “dance” by pulling the tab. Henry LOVES this book and I highly reccomend it!
Stuffed Animals
Stuffed animals can help promote babies language development, social skills and emotional regulation! And of course they provide a sense of comfort too!
It can be hard to find high quality stuffed animals that are safe for babies though! All of the ones listed below claim to be safe for infants (with adult supervision) AND are adorable!
I want a girl, just so I can buy her this bunny! I love the floral details!
A cute option for boys (which boy moms know, is hard to find!)
The cutest chubby bunny I’ve ever seen!
This lamb looks so soft and is a great alternative to a bunny!
Another alternative to a bunny is this adorable duckling!
I love the buffalo plaid on this duck lovie!
Seasonal Items
Sun hats are necessary for babies in the spring and summer to protect them from the sun! I love this floppy hat version for little girls and here is a cute option for boys!
Baseball hats can also be good to keep the sun out of baby’s eyes! Here is a cute option for girls!
If you are going to be going to the beach or pool a lot this summer, you could roll up a little beach towel for their basket! This poncho style one is genius! The link also has ballerina, astronaut, and mermaid versions!
Babies love bubbles–this is a great way for babies to enjoy bubbles without parents having to do as much work 😉
These sunglasses come in tons of different colors for boys and girls ranging from newborn size up to kids!
The sweetest beach coverup for your little girl!
Other ideas: Swimsuit, swim trunks, sunscreen, sandals, etc.
Cheap filler items:
Easter baskets can add up quickly if you aren’t careful! I plan on choosing a few of the items above for Henry’s basket and then filling the rest of the basket up with cheaper items like these:
- bubbles
- plastic eggs filled with: cheerios, puffs, freeze dried fruit, etc
- applesauce pouches
- dollar tree flashcard (to look at the pictures)
- window clings (adult supervision required!)
Target has a lot of great cheap items in their dollar spot, as well as the seasonal section!
I hope this post gave you some great ideas for your baby’s first Easter basket and that you have a great first Easter together! 🙂
