I LOVE New Year’s. Not so much the New Year’s Eve partying these days (#momlife), but the actual beginning of a new year. I love the idea of a fresh start and always feel so motivated to set and achieve goals. This post will be sharing my goal setting process and you can find the free printable worksheet that I used at the bottom of this post.
Resolutions tend to get a lot of bad rap–probably because research suggests that less than 10% of those who make New Year’s resolutions actually achieve them! Instead of making vague resolutions such as “losing weight”, “getting healthier”, “saving money”, etc I try and set measurable goals. At the end of the year I should be able to answer whether or not I met my goal with a clear “yes” or “no”. I also write my resolutions in a few different places so that I will see them frequently. This way I won’t write them somewhere and forget about them a few months later like I have in years past!
To start the goal setting process, I created a bullet journal page to brainstorm ideas for resolutions in all aspects of my life: relationships, finances, wellness, personal growth, family, home, work and fun.
I was happy with the list that I came up with, so I decided to create a larger version that I could hang up in my office and see daily (right next to my 30 Before 30 list!) Being able to see this list everyday will keep my goals at the front of my mind and make me much more likely to achieve them!
From there, I chose the 12 resolutions that I wanted to achieve the most and created this bullet journal spread using sticky notes. Twelve goals might seem overly ambitious, but I figured I would try since there are 12 months in the year 🙂 I love the use of sticky notes because if some time in the next 12 months, I want to add or subtract a goal, I am free to do so! A LOT can change in a year, so it is good to be flexible with your goals and realize they may change as the year goes on. Using sticky notes is also a great visual way to see what I have accomplished throughout the year.
My personal main goals are: to get back in shape, earn some money, start some new hobbies and strengthen relationships. As you can see, I broke those goals down into smaller, manageable and measurable goals. Even though I have twelve goals, I know that they are attainable and can’t wait to crush them in 2019!
