What I Read in August
August was a month filled with some subpar romance novels, page turning mysteries, a standout nonfiction and three (or 4?!) books that might make it to my favorites of the year list! Summer Romance Favorite parts: Parts I could’ve done without: Overall: I loved it! A quick paced, relatable, light hearted summer read, with just enough depth to make me care about the characters. Solid 4.5/5 stars and easily the best romance novel I read this month. Middletide Favorite parts: Parts I could’ve done without: Overall: I enjoyed reading this and it would have been a solid 4 star read without the imagined Indigenous tribe. 3/5 stars Thank you to…

What I Read in July
The 10 books I read in July! All the Colors of the Dark Favorite parts: Parts I could’ve done without: Overall: This book (and especially the characters) are memorable and I enjoyed reading it. The high quality writing easily deserves 5 stars, but due to my personal preferences I’d give my experience of reading it 4/5 stars. I would still highly recommend it to anyone looking for a literary mystery & can see why Chris Whitaker is such an acclaimed author. I look forward to reading more of his work. (I’d love to discuss this one if anyone has read it! It would make a great bookclub book.) Such a…

What I Read in June
I’ve decided to make these monthly reading recaps (hopefully!) kind of like a living document- I’ll add to them as I read each month. I’ve been fortunate to start receiving some Advanced Reader Copies of books via NetGalley, so this will serve as a way to get those reviews up in a timely manner. PLUS it will make it less daunting to write 1-2 reviews at a time, rather than the 8+ I’ve been reading a month lately. Here is what I read in June: Home is Where the Bodies Are: This is my second book by Jeneva Rose and I’ve learned she is not an author for me. *To…

What I Read in April
Go As a River: I really loved this book. It spanned a long period of the main character’s life, and the trials and tribulations she encountered growing up, from her teenage years to midlife. Sometimes I found myself wanting more depth, but I think that the author chose not to do that in order to continue the metaphor of life as a river throughout the book and in the end I liked getting to see the “big picture” of her life. I also loved learning about a piece of history that I didn’t know anything about previously. Overall, I agree with the blurb- if you loved books like “Where the…

What I Read In March
As I begin my social media break in April- I wanted to have a place to share the books I’ve read because I love chatting books with you guys! Leave me a comment and let me know the best book you read last month! 🙂 Another quick note: I recently started utilizing NetGalley- I didn’t quite understand how it worked previously- but it is a way to receive advanced copies of books before they are published, either ebooks or audiobooks! I’m sharing because there are a lot of books in the “read now” category that anyone can access, read and review; you don’t necessarily have to have an “online presence”!…
