Frugal DIY Tea Organization

Learn how to organize your tea collection by using what you already have at home in this post all about frugal DIY tea organization!

If you were looking at my “before” picture–you may think that I am a frequent tea drinker. But, believe it or not, you would be wrong! I love buying tea and my mom often gives it to me as a gift, but because of this chaotic situation, I rarely drink it. I had WAY too much, it was disorganized and not functional in the least.

The thing is, I DO like tea, so I wanted to find a way to simplify this area and make it practical to use. I’m a firm believer in once a space is organized and tidy you will be more likely to use it (or its contents!)

While I wanted this area to be organized, I didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on fancy tea organizers. So all of the containers pictured were ones that I had around my home. If you don’t have them already, I bet you have something similar!

Here are a few of the different ways that I organized my tea, starting from the bottom shelf and moving towards the top.

Mason jar tea organization:

This is one of my favorite ways that I organized my tea! I simply traced the inner circle of a mason jar on a tea box, cut it out and used that as the lid! This is wonderful for Celestial Seasons type of tea, with loose tea bags. It helps keep them fresh, but is still easy to see what type it is. This type of storage would be perfect for a drawer, but since I didn’t have a drawer available, I placed my jars in a photo box that I can easily pull out when I want to access the jars.

I also used mason jars to organize some other tea bags that I had. The regular mouth mason jars that I had on hand worked fine, but in the future, I would like to switch them over to the wide mouth jars for a better fit! These I didn’t even bother labeling because you can easily see the contents through the clear jar!

Using tea boxes as organizers:

A super easy way to store tea that comes in boxes, is to cut off the top and use the box itself as an organizer! I put the boxes in a bin so that I could pull it out for easy accessibility.

Organizing with tea tins:

Tea tins are great for loose leaf tea and I had collected these tea tins throughout the years. Most of them came when I purchased the tea, but others were bought separately. Tea tins aren’t a must, but I love that they can be reused for years and years! Thrift stores are a great place to find these too!

You’ll also notice that I moved my fancy tea cups over to this cabinet. I’ve NEVER used these before. They are from my husband’s grandma and my mom and they are so pretty, but I always thought they were “too fancy” to use. But I’m making a decision to use start using them because life is too short not to use the fancy stuff 😉

Other drink storage:

This cabinet is also home to other drink storage. One bin has drink mixes that we reach for frequently like True Lemon packets, emergen-c, protein powder packets, etc. Nothing fancy, just separated by like items, but will be so much easier to find!

The highest shelf holds a bin that stores “extras” like bulk loose leaf tea and more “medicinal teas” that are rarely used.

And that is it! I believe that some containers and bins are necessary to create a functional system..but that doesn’t mean that you need to spend lots of money on NEW ones! Look around your house and see what you already have first 😉 I hope you found some ideas that you can DIY to create your own frugal tea organization!
