My favorite books in 2019
I challenged myself to read 30 books in the year before I turned 30 and I am happy to say that I a few weeks before I turn 30, I finished them all! I chose my books based on recommendations from friends, as well as off of the Amazon charts. The books that I chose are a good mix of fiction and nonfiction and range from historical fiction, to psychological thriller to personal development!
I’m sharing my top picks out of all the ones that I have read here! The books below are my favorites that I suggest whenever someone asks me for a book suggestion. I hope that you can find something new to read and enjoy!

This was one of the most practical and impactful books that I read this year. It is an easy, quick read, but is full of great tips for simplifying your life! This is one of the few books that I think is worth owning (rather than checking it out at the library) since you will want to refer back to it!
The Joy of Less is another great book if you are looking to minimalize your belongings. It gives you more of a step by step approach, along with several exercises in mindset shift. I think that this book and Outer Order, Inner Calm compliment each other well and make a great pair!
This book is full of practical advice and motivation for achieving your goals. I love that she gives you actionable steps to take that you can actually start doing today.
Memoirs are not something I typically choose to read, but I really enjoyed this one. It is about a survivalist family and one daughter’s quest for an education. It was so fasinating reading about such a different way of life that can be hard for someone in mainstream America to realize even exsists.
I love Kristin Hannah’s books and this was no exception! It is a about an abusive father who moves his family to the wilderness of Alaska and their story of survival. This is one of those books that I will never forget!
This is two sisters’ story as immigrants and as one sister battles mental illness. It was so different than anything I have ever read and I really appreciated how the author interwove such important topics into a beautiful story.
If you are looking for a good page turner, read this one or The Wife Between Us (both by the same authors). I read both in just a few days, which is unusual for me to do these days because #momlife.
This book came highly recommended and after reading I can see why! It tells the story of an abandoned girl growing up in a swamp. It is beautifully written and combines a love story, murder mystery and a coming of age story all in one.
Another really great psychological thriller page turner. Like the title suggests, it tells the story of a patient who inexplicably shoots her husband and then refuses to speak and the psychotherapist who tries to treat her.
Small Great Things is a book that all white Americans should read. It examines racism and white privilege in today’s society in a page turning story. Like many of Jodi Picoult’s books, it makes you stop and think and consider a perspective other than your own.
This book was SO good. It tells the story of an orphanage where the owner kidnapped poor children and sold them to wealthy families. What makes this story even more interesting (and devastating) is that it is based on true events. A definite must read!
