DIY custom Valentine’s candy box

These custom Valentine’s candy boxes are the easiest (and most inexpensive!) DIY gifts either. Great for kids and significant others alike!

This year for Valentine’s Day we are going on a mini family getaway (aiming for experiences over things this year whenever possible!) buuuut I still wanted to do something special for the loves of my life. Enter these DIY custom Valentine’s candy boxes.

These are a great gift for a few reasons:

1. They are 100% customizable! I didn’t want to give my toddler a TON of candy. This allowed me to mix in some candy with some novelty treats that he doesn’t usually get, to create a custom box that I know he will still be SO excited about! Maybe your significant other doesn’t love chocolate? You could make a heart filled with sour candy–or even things like jerky, nuts, popcorn, etc!

2. They are SO inexpensive! For a custom gift, you can’t beat the price of less than $5! PLUS, you can reuse the heart tin over and over again each year (if you want!) and you will likely have extra snacks left over!

How to make DIY custom Valentine’s candy boxes:

Materials:

I purchased these tin heart containers from the Target dollar spot, but they also have them at Dollar Tree. You will also need mini baking cups and an assortment of treats! I chose to write their names on the hearts using this paint pen.

Assembly:

These are one of the easiest DIYs ever! Simply, fill cups with candy (or treat of choice and put them in the heart tin! Rearrange the cups until you find an arrangement you like–and that is it! Write the name of the lucky recipient on the lid, if you would like.

If you are making them in advance and have ingredients that might get stale, put plastic wrap over the top before placing the lid on. This should help maintain freshness!

Ideas for a toddler’s custom treat box:

Like I mentioned earlier, I didn’t want to have a ton of candy in my toddler’s DIY custom Valentine’s candy box. I did include some mini m&ms, a chocolate heart and a few mini chips ahoy cookies for sweet treats. The rest of the box was filled with goldfish (the “princess” ones are perfect for Valentine’s day!), Ritz bits crackers, and Annie’s fruit snacks.

Other ideas: yogurt covered raisins, puffs, dry cereal, yogurt covered pretzels, chocolate chips, freeze dried fruit, or any other snack that your little one enjoys! You could also do non edible items like: stickers, a car, hair accessories, etc.

Ideas for your significant other:

For my husband’s DIY custom Valentine’s candy box, I simply went to the bulk candy section of our grocery store (Winco is great for this if you have one!) and picked his favorites! His includes chocolate covered peanuts, chocolate covered strawberries, a sour rope, peanut butter m&ms, mini peanut butter cups, etc.

If you don’t have a grocery store with bulk candy, you could just buy a few packs of candy from Dollar Tree and split it up OR visit a candy store and just get a few of each kind!

Other ideas: jerky, popcorn, nuts, trail mix, crackers, or any other snack that your significant other enjoys!
